How To Create Radiant Glowing Skin (Part 2)
In my previous post, I outlined how you can begin creating radiant glowing skin from the inside out. If you missed that post, you can read it here. Before i begin with part 2, several folks asked me what the big deal was in having radiant glowing skin. I’d like to begin by saying that our skin is beautiful when its radiant and glowing and free from blemishes, bacteria and clogged pores. Having radiant skin that is smooth and clear can boost your confidence level and you don’t have to be a victim to makeup. You can leave the house and face the day without feeling the need to “put on” your face.
I heard of a story of a man dating a young woman who was a slave to makeup. She could not go to sleep without makeup as she did not feel she was pretty without it. He complained that pillows, blankets, sheets, the walls, his couch, cabinets, etc was stained with makeup and that it got so annoying, he had to break up with her. Her insecurities were intolerable. Makeup is meant to enhance the best that you already have. It is not meant to be a mask you hide behind so as not to reveal the real you. Some women don’t wear much makeup at all, but are tired of dealing with blemishes, blackheads and scars from acne. The benefit to having radiant glowing skin is that you can proudly walk out of your house knowing that your skin is clear, fresh, bright, and clean.
So what are the steps to glowing skin?
BODY
1) Gentle cleansers free from harsh sulfates, chemicals, and alcohol that dry out the skin should be avoided as these will age the skin much faster.
2) Exfoliate a few times a week when you know you will wear sleeveless and strapless dresses and tops. I personally use Flori Roberts Creme Brulee Sugar Polish. This delectably scented (caramel & vanilla) skin softening sugar scrub gently exfoliates and washes away easily leaving skin astonishingly smooth, soft and moisturized. Its for all skin types and its chocked full of natural botanical ingredients and essential oils like coconut oil, soybean oil, sweet almond oil, macadamia ternifolia seed oil, vitamin E, ivy extract, primrose extract, lotus flower extract, st. john’s wort extract. How you use this is that you massage into the skin while showering. It will remove dead skin cells from the body as vibrant, healthy and new cells are revealed.
3) Once you exfoliate, it is always best to follow up on damp skin with a rich moisturizing cream with essential oils. I use Creme Brulee Body Souffle. This decadent body cream deeply moisturizes while keeping your skin fresh and smooth with the rich scent of caramel and vanilla. This product is also paraben free. It contains aloe barbadensis leaf juice, apricot kernel oil, safflower seed oil, sodium hyaluronate, Vitamins C and E.
4) Exfoliating to remove dead skin cells will reveal younger, fresher, clearer and brighter skin. If purchasing products are not in your budget, you can also create your own special home remedy using brown sugar, honey, and olive oil. Brown sugar is alot more gentle than regular sugar. Also for your moisturizer, you can use shea butter, jojoba oil, coconut oil and or avacado oil as these will trap in the moisture at the same time allow moisture from the air to enter your pores as well and penetrate your skin.
FACE
Your face deserves this special treatment, tender loving care and more. Why? because your face is the first thing people see. How you choose to take care of yourself or lack there of is written all over your face. Here is what you will need:
- A Gentle Cleanser-I use Flori Roberts Perfect Tone Cleansing Foam. This soap-free cleansing foam infused with natural botanical ingredients like cucumber, castor oil (a natural cleansing agent) and emblica fruit extract, removes dirt and debris while natural papaya gently exfoliates to uncover brighter, fresher looking skin. This is a great product to use if you have uneven skin tone due to hyperpigmentation or spots from blackheads, acne and pimples. The emblica fruit herb extract has been used for thousands of years in India and is a cornerstone within the traditional healing system of Ayurveda. Research has shown Emblica to increase skin hydration and skin lipids, to reduce collagenase activity, to reduce UV-induced erythema, to reduce inflammation and to help preserve skin tone and integrity. Due to the quality ingredients, you can use your facial cleanser as a body cleanser as well to get more bang for your buck.
- A Toner–Folks like to skip this step, yet i find it to be the most important step. The toner cleanse deep down within your pores to clean out any imbedded impurities that may have been lodged into your skin. Once you have used your cleanser, your pores are now open. A toner will remove impurities from pollution, makeup, and bacteria. In addition, it restores the PH balance of your skin, no different than using a leave-in conditioner in your hair to restore its PH balance. I personally use Flori Roberts Perfect Tone Skin Prep because it uses aloe vera juice, cucumber, ivy extract which soothes, heals, and decongests the skin. I also use my this as a leave-in conditioner as well because my hair loves the ingredients. If cost is a factor, vegetable glycerin and rosewater are just as good to restore the the skin’s PH balance as well.
- A Moisturizer-this is your final step in your daily skin care regimen. As your hair needs moisture, so does your skin and not just any moisturizer will do, but one that seals in moisture and attracts moisture as well. Oily skin types and dry skin types will have different needs, but what is essential is to use one that works with your skin type. Dryer skin will benefit from much richer formulas like Flori Roberts Perfect Tone –Hydrating Complex. This rich crème with mulberry and cucumber leaves normal to dry skin soft, supple and hydrated while emblica evens out skin tone and fades discolorations. Clinically proven as effective as hydroquinone but all natural. Oily skin will benefit from a water based formula like Perfect Tone Moisture-Super Light as it has Vitamin A, D, and E to leave normal to oily skin soft and supple. Perfect Tone are great for women of color who suffer from hyperpigmentation or skin discoloration. Another great moisturizer that all skin types can benefit from is My Everything Crème–An all-in-one, multi-purpose miracle cream can be used at night for eyes, face and neck, firming, wrinkles and stress. Hazelnut oil and licorice extract nourish and soften skin, caledula extract and chamomile soothe and calm, while vitamin A smooths and increase the skin’s elasticity. Fragrance free and Paraben free.
- Exfoliator–a gentle exfoliator is best as stated previously to remove dead skin cells sitting on your skin. Flori Roberts Exfoliating Facial Scrub and Primer refines the skin’s texture by sloughing away dead, dull skin cells and leaves behind smoother and more vibrant skin. It can be used as an exfoliator and a mask. An exfoliator once a week is perfect bring out a healthy glow.
It seems like a lot i’m sure, but you will come to realize that whether you choose to buy your products or make them in the kitchen, our bodies, organs, and cells respond better to tender loving care and natural ingredients. When you take care of your skin, you will find that you need less makeup products and you will find discolorations from acne and scars fading. Some people have natural radiant skin while others have to work at it. Radiant glowing skin takes a bit of work but anything worth having is worth working for.
Have a sexy, joyful, radiant and vibrant spring.
