Fit to be Queen
You will feel and radiate confidence, class, and grace if your clothes fit. Fit is the underlying factor to becoming a well-dressed and stylish woman. It is important to pay more attention to how you feel in your clothes more so than the size you are wearing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having different sizes in your wardrobe (given they are between 2-4 sizes in range from each other) if the garment fits. What might be an 8 for one designer might be a 12 for another, so it is important to try clothes on and judge how you feel.
Look at the front, side profile and back. I have to move around, move my arms up and down. A bad and unflattering fit can be distracting and annoying (think of the unattractive guy who won’t stop calling) and can make or break your look.
Fit to be Queen
- A garment should sit well. The garment should feel like second skin. It should almost “hug” you in the most important places-the neck, the shoulders, the chest, and the upper back without feeling tight or pinch.
- A good fit is one in which your body makes contact with a garment in a way that does not feel intrusive or flimsy. The garment should touch you in such a way that it feels as though it is a part of you.
- Always try it on, and always sit down in it
- You should be able to fit a finger underneath a waistband
- Side seams should hang straight with no horizontal creases
- Zips should lie flat
- Allow some give in the sleeve around the upper arm
- Sleeves on jackets and coats should finish at the wrist
- Pockets shouldn’t gape
- There should be no pulling around the bust on jackets, blouses or dresses
- If you are heavier than you’d like to be, do not buy clothes that fit tightly. Your clothes should have contact with your body, but in no way should they feel snug.
- The better the quality of clothes you buy, the more flattering they will be and the better they will fit.
- Always ask yourself, “How do I feel?”
Overall, you want to feel really good. You show the world that you have an intimate understanding of your body and of yourself. A good fit can change the way you hold yourself. For instance, if your jacket fits high and snug under your arm, as it should, you will achieve a look that appears more defined and you will probably stand with your chest slightly pronounced. This helps to radiate confidence and express your fearless femininity. As tempting as it may be, or regardless of how cute a garment is, do not compromise in this area as the expense will not be worth it when you feel uncomfortable. Resolve to buy clothes that fit.
