Pants That Look Great on Everyone

Menswear-style pants have a Katharine Hepburn elegance and are kind to all figures. Throw on a pair of menswear trousers in the morning, and you’ll feel confident for the rest of the day. They’re both authoritative and graceful, flattering and comfortable. Perfect for the office, they can also be dressed up for evening with a sexy, fun little top and heels.

FRONT

Look for a dark-neutral pair with a slim fit though the hips that gives way to fuller legs.

A comfortable, low rise with a wider-than-usual waistband is particularly flattering

While legs are loose, they shouldn’t be shapeless. Trousers that show the outline of your upper leg and flare from the knee down add length; a small amount of stretch in the fabric can help.

BACK

• Regarding the rear view, as with jeans, pocket placement is everything. Small, straight slash pockets that fall a little higher than mid-butt are most flattering.
• Although they’re full in the legs, menswear trousers should fit well through the seat; the crotch should have no more than a half inch of fabric hanging.

THE BEST FABRICS

Work pants in lightweight wool or a comparable blend always look good; the tiniest percentage of stretch in the fabric helps their shape. Watch out for narrow, fitted shapes in stretch cotton, though; cotton pants with too much stretch can hike up your leg.
