The Best Winter Fabrics

Hot Summers in Africa
After returning to the U.S. from a 6 month trip to West Africa, my client asked, ”What did you wear? How did you pack for the trip?” I told her that I only took with me the best quality fabrics that I could afford. Temperatures in Nigeria remain consistently warm and sometimes just downright hot, and with only 2 seasons: dry and rainy. When I packed for my trip, I remembered to focus on fabrics that could breathe and avoided all artificial manufactured synthetic fibres like polyester, rayon, nylon, etc. and in exchange took items that were made with 100% silk, cotton, and linen or a mix of these blends. Packing this way allowed me to travel light because natural fabrics hold well and last longer. In addition, because my clothes said dry clean instead of dry clean only, I was able to keep up the luster of the fabrics by hand washing my clothes.
My client said, ”You should blog about that. Not many people know to pack like this.” I have to agree with her. It’s not very often that we look at the labels and the percentage of what a garment is made of, nor do we get this education in any high school or college course. Yet knowing this information is essential if you want to feel comfortable, warm, and or cool in the clothes that you wear. When you feel comfortable, you project confidence and this is important no matter where you are in the world. Although I was not accustomed to such extreme warm temperatures in Nigeria, having clothes that I felt cool and breezy in allowed me to feel comfortable, confident and ready for any occasion that came my way.
